8月31日から9月3日にかけて、「英語キャンプ」を実施しました。その時の様子を英語コースの森年ポール教授に紹介していただきました。

Every year, Sanyo Gakuen University has an English Camp for 1st-year students who want to participate. The purpose of the course is to　improve students’ English and their confidence to use English. This year, the English Camp was held between August 31st (Monday) and　September 3rd (Thursday).

On the first day, we studied on-campus to prepare for days 2 and 3. Then we went to the Kurashiki Nature House for two days. There, we participated in a Scavenger Hunt (スカベンジャーハント(＊)) made by the other students. It was hot outside, so it was good to get back into the cool hall.

In the evening, we were introduced to four traditional English games:

Darts

Hoops

Ring the Bull

Shove Ha’penny

We competed in pairs against the other students. Each game was funand we really wanted to win the contest, so we tried hard to get the best score we could. Finally, there was an English quiz. We listened to the English questions about sports, science, nature, etc. and wrote our team’s answers in English. We learned a lot of new words andinformation.
On the third day, the students cooked and ate curry rice for lunch. It was fun and interesting to cut our own firewood and cook on fire stoves. We enjoyed making and eating the food while chatting with friends.

During the English Camp, we had learned how to make presentations in English and practiced a lot. Finally, on day four, we gave our Englishpresentations. We were nervous, but each student did very well.

Thank you to all the students and staff who participated in this year’s English Camp. It was hard work but now we have much more confidence to use English.
